Coachella To Offer Free HIV Testing On Festival Grounds This Year

UPDATE 2/15 | In an email sent out today, Get Tested has provided a correction to information they previously provided in their announcement. Read below:

Dear Community Partners & Colleagues,
At our Annual Update last Thursday, we were proud to recap the significant progress the Get Tested Coachella Valley campaign has made so far – and we thank you for all of your contributions to this success!
We also shared announcements related to upcoming activities in 2016. Among these was an announcement that Goldenvoice, the producers of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, had invited us to provide free and confidential HIV testing at the medical services area at the festival. Since then we have learned that the actual invitation is to participate in a different event: the Coachella Valley Expedition that is produced by Goldenvoice and California Careforce. The Coachella Valley Expedition is an outstanding annual healthcare event that assists thousands of individuals to receive needed medical, dental, and vision care at no cost, and Get Tested Coachella Valley is both excited and honored to participate. Thank you for noting this correction.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership as we move ahead to make 2016 our best year yet!

You’re at Coachella, and have an hour between sets. The sun is beating down on your neck, you can feel the bass emanating all the way from the Sahara Tent, and flower-veiled attendees are passing by you in flocks. With so much time on your hands before your next performance, you could easily spend it by going to fill up your water bottle, trying the fabled crab-topped garlic fries, or catching some shade underneath the towering pieces of art. But why be part of the herd, when you could instead get tested for HIV on the polo grounds for free?!
This year, the fantasy will finally become a reality as organization Get Tested Coachella Valley touches down on site during the music festival’s two-weekend stop. Run by parent organization Desert AIDS Project, the team now operates among 100 dedicated partners. Last year, they ran over 26,456 HIV with 250 HIV-positive results in a $5 million effort to make every Coachella Valley occupant aware of their status. The disease has claimed about 39 million lives, so it’s no joking matter.
CEO of the AIDS Project David Brinkman told the Desert Sun that being able to provide testing at Coachella Music Festival was something they’d hoped to accomplish ever since they began their work.
So, whether you’re curious as to your own health or just have some time to kill, take advantage of the opportunity and consider stopping by the Get Tested stations on the grounds this year.

Three pop-up restaurants made their debut at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio in 2015. The festival has expanded its roster of chefs this year, with attendees having a chance to enjoy a four-course meal by pairings of noted schefs.

A dinner in the Rose Garden will included one four-course meal prepared by a pair of chefs, with a welcoming cocktail, beer and wine included. Festival goers can choose from 1 of 2 times on one night. VIP access to the Rose Garden for the day of the reservation is included.

The festival runs two weekend: April 15-17 and April 22-24. For those who already have secured a pass to the festival, the dinner costs $225 per person. You can buy a three-day general admission pass with one dinner for $600, and a package for a three-day VIP pass with one dinner is $1124. Reservations for these dinners are underway.

Coachella Festival 2016! Watch it remotely with VR

Coachella is one of the year’s most popular and well-attended festivals, but that doesn’t mean that every fan can get to the California desert in the middle of April. But now, thanks to a collaborative VR partnership with Vantage.tv, Coachella is making a live stream of this year’s festival events available to fans at home on their couches. Through a Coachella VR app, fans far away will be able to get all kinds of virtual reality experiences, from festival history to desert preparation and the live sets themselves.
To help attendees prepare, the Coachella VR app will offer a virtual tour of the festival grounds and desert layout. But the rest of the app features are extremely attractive to anyone looking for a live stream of Coachella events, without the sand and crowds. The app’s video library includes recorded performances from popular acts so that fans can get caught up before the shows. And the most appealing feature has got to be a live stream of the top Coachella performers in three-dimensional VR, and 360 degree panoramic format.

Coachella isn’t the first high profile event to make the move to publicly available VR footage. Plenty of sports and entertainment brands have enabled VR streaming in recent months, including the NFL, the NCAA, and even Six Flags. Of course, VR access to a festival like Coachella could be a game changer, both for the festival scene and for the highly ambitious field of virtual reality technology.
Vantage.tv does bill itself as a pioneer “at the forefront in the field of Virtual Reality”, so hope is strong that the VR content will be high quality, totally immersive, and filmed in 360 degree format. The app features that are available in VR will be viewable with Google Cardboard, Samsung Gear VR, and other virtual reality headsets. And that’s definitely better than watching your friends’ Coachella desert snapchats enviously from your couch back home.
